Electric muscle stimulation (EMS) uses sticky electrodes to stimulate muscle contraction via sending electrical impulses through the skin. This stimulation increases blood flow in the area to aid in reduction in inflammation and relieving pain.

While chiropractic care is thought to generally be using adjustments that simply address the bones and their misalignments, all of those bones are directly attached to muscles and soft tissue. Oftentimes these subluxations lead to muscle imbalances. The reverse is frequently true as well, where muscle imbalances can cause misalignments in the spine.
