Muscle Release & Stretching for Lasting Relief and Balance.

Restore alignment, reduce pain, and help your body move freely again.

While chiropractic care is thought to generally be using adjustments that simply address the bones and their misalignments, all of those bones are directly attached to muscles and soft tissue. Oftentimes these subluxations lead to muscle imbalances. The reverse is frequently true as well, where muscle imbalances can cause misalignments in the spine. In this office, both the spinal misalignments and the muscular imbalances are addressed.

A common muscular imbalance seen is what is known as upper cross syndrome. This gets enforced by daily tasks with our arms in front of us, leading to rounded shoulders, tight trapezius and pectoral muscles (as well as others) and weakening of their counterparts. This can cause a lot of neck tension that radiates out to the shoulders. Another very common tight muscle is the piriformis, which is tightened by extended periods of sitting and external rotation of the leg. When the piriformis gets tight, it can compress the sciatic nerve, generating shooting pain radiating down the back of the leg.

When muscle imbalances are present, muscle release techniques will be used in addition to the chiropractic adjustment. Techniques such as pin & stretch, post isometric relaxation, and stretching are commonly used to combat tight musculature. We will also prescribe you exercises that you can do at home to stay on top of these tight muscles and strengthen the weakened muscles. Addressing issues in the muscles allows the chiropractic adjustment to hold better and decrease pain that much faster.
